March for Babies is FAMOUS!

April 9, 2010

Today was the Famous Footwear Kickoff and I was so excited!  First we made a visit to another big supporter in St. Louis for March for Babies – Centric Group.  They are such a cool company that makes things like luggage and foods and supplies for prisons.  We met Jim Theiss, the President & CEO. Heather Edwards, their Team Captain, and Katie Ashcroft.  Jim is so cool and travels a lot, too!  He goes to places like Switzerland because they make Swiss Army luggage and China!  Heather is so awesome and has won so many Centric Star Awards for all of her amazing work with organizations like the March of Dimes.  And Katie has a one-year-old son Samuel who is also a preemie, and weighed one pound and four ounces when he was born.  He’s such a fighter, too, and I hope I brightened his day with the note I wrote to him on a purple balloon!

Jim, Heather, and Katie greeted us with colorful balloons and a Swiss Army suitcase!

We toured the Centric Museum!

This purple balloon is especially for little Samuel.

Next stop, Famous Footwear Kickoff.  Do you want to know where it was?  A bowling alley!  It was so much fun!!!  I wore my Star Sneakers and met so many fun and cool people.  There was Joe Wood, President of Brown Shoe Retail, and Ron Fromm, Chairman and CEO Brown Shoe Company, Terence Reilly, Sean Mayo, and Joann Miles in Marketing, and so many others who all bought raffle tickets and help raise money for their Team and the March of Dimes.  And they were all great bowlers!  Sean gave me some great tips on how to improve my game and then I got a spare!

I was so excited to show Joe Wood my Star Sneakers!

Everyone at Famous Footwear and Brown Shoe Retail are extra special fun!

After that, we raced to the aiport to catch our flight to Phoenix where we’re going to a real NASCAR race tomorrow!  It’s the Subway Fit 600 at the Phoenix International Raceway and Denny Hamlin is driving the FedEx Racing car with the March of Dimes logo on the front of it!!!

Hi Josh….great visit to St Louis and you gotta love those folks at Famous Footwear!! They have done so much for the March of Dimes over the years…what a wonderful company. I am so jealous that you are going to go to the Phoenix 600!! My Dad owned race cars and I grew up around the pits(that’s where all the mechanics and other crew members are). It was nothing like the FedEx car…back then we built the cars in our garages and barns…but it was still fun.
Enjoy Phoenix and the race (bring ear plugs because it’s LOUD!!!) and thank you, once again, for all that you do. I’ve been a volunteer for over 20 years and I can tell you from my heart that you and your family are doing a fantastic job getting our message out there. We’re lucky to have you!
