March for Babies START YOUR ENGINES!!!

April 10, 2010

The #11 FedEx Office & March for Babies car!

Today was one of the coolest days I’ve ever had.  We woke up to beautiful mountains outside our hotel window in Phoenix, and we went to the Subway Fresh Fit 600 NASCAR race where the March of Dimes and March for Babies logo was on the front and the back of the FedEx Office #11 car!!!  We met the legendary Joe Gibbs who owns Joe Gibbs Racing and the FedEx Racing team.

"Coach" Joe Gibbs of Joe Gibbs Racing

We also met a bunch of amazing people from FedEx.  And Zack Cowell from FedEx Racing gave us a Grand Tour of Pit Road where we got to actually sit in Denny Hamlin’s driver’s seat inside the #11 car and we got to actually walk on the track where all the cars race around and around.

Zack Cowell from FedEx Racing is just the greatest!

The incredible Pit Crew team of FedEx Racing

I still can't believe that I actually got to sit in Denny Hamlin's driver's seat in the FedEx Office/March for Babies car today!!!

My little brother Alex, too! See him, he's in there, too, with thumbs up and all!

We went inside the hauler and learned about all the parts that go into making the best race car. Here's different tapes they use.

We're up where the crew chief sits during the race!

I couldn’t stop looking at the car with the purple and white March of Dimes logo.  It was so awesome!  And to watch it speed around the track at 130 miles per hour with all the other race cars like the M&M car and the Target and Home Depot and Cheerios cars, it was just one of the most exciting experiences I have ever had!!!

Go Denny! Go #11! Go FedEx Office and March of Dimes!!!

Denny Hamlin hurt his knee so he almost didn’t race today, but he ended up starting and driving for the entire race!  He said he would do his best to make me and March of Dimes proud today.  Even though he didn’t win the race, he’s still a big winner to everyone.

Hi Josh…I couldn’t believe it when I turned the TV on to the race and saw the number 11 car…WOW!! The March of Dimes logo was all over the car, Denny’s fire suit, the head rest inside the car….the network even put up the March for Babies web site every time they showed the car going around the track. It was amazing!! Denny Hamlin showed how tough he was to drive the entire 600 kilometers after having that knee surgery. The drivers are amazing athletes. But I don’t have to tell you about being tough because YOU are one of the toughest people I have met.
I hope you had a chance to take a walk or drive and take in some of that beautiful country out there. My wife Barb and I go out their quite a bit as her sister lives near Phoenix AND the March of Dimes used to hold their annual staff meeting at the Biltmore there and I was fortunate to have been asked to attend several times.
Have a safe trip home!! (I’m so jealous!!!…LOL)
    Mr Rick

    Hi, Josh!

Thank you for allowing Mr Ron and I to spend the day at the race with you and your family! You are an amazing young man and it was a privilege getting to know you. We love our autographed card you gave us…I have it hanging in my office! Tell your mom to be on the look-out for pictures…I took over 200 of them at the race!

Enjoy your trip to Washington! Best wishes to you and your family.
